Please vote for me for the position of Councilor for the Forum on Industrial & Applied Physics (FIAP)

It’s been my pleasure to serve on the executive board of the APS Forum for Early Career Scientists (FECS) for the past five years. I’m currently running for a position as Councilor for the APS Forum on Industrial & Applied Physics (FIAP). The role of councilor is to serve as FIAP’s representative to the APS Council of Representatives, which represents the interests of APS members to the board, focusing on “all matters of science and membership, including science policy.”

I’m an early career scientist working in industry. With my experience in APS leadership and background in policy, I believe I will make a very effective councilor for FIAP (I’ve included my full candidate statement below). Please vote for me!

How to vote:

If you’re a member of FIAP, you should already have an email in your inbox with the subject line “APS FIAP Election – login information below.” There’s a link where you can fill out your ballot. Polls close at midnight eastern time on November 22.

Candidate Statement:

I am thrilled to be running for the position of Councilor for the APS Forum on Industrial and Applied Physics (FIAP).

I have had the great privilege to serve APS in several roles. As chair of the Forum for Early Career Scientists (FECS), I worked with FIAP to put together well-attended invited sessions on careers at the March Meeting. As FECS’ ex-officio representative on the APS Committee on Careers and Professional Development (CCPD), I worked with FIAP to revise the FIAP Career Lectureship Award (FCLA). This award had attracted no nominations in the previous two years; with the new simplified application process, three candidates were nominated in short order.

My service with APS has given me a great appreciation for the value that APS provides beyond conferences and journals, but I have also seen that too few physicists maintain their APS membership after leaving academia. By joining this committee, I hope to help APS make a better value proposition to industry scientists to maintain their membership and support our invaluable professional society. I’m excited to bring an early career perspective to FIAP and to continue to build upon the partnership between FIAP and FECS. I have a proven track record of advocacy and consensus building. With my APS leadership experience and policy background, I am confident that I can effectively represent FIAP and all industrial physicists on the APS Council.
